Uganda is a landlocked country located in East Africa lying between east and west of Africa’s great rift valley. It boarders South Sudan in the north, Tanzania and Rwanda in the south, Democratic republic of Congo in the west and Kenya to the east.  Uganda is regarded as The Pearl of Africa due to various reasons ranging from sparkling nature, unique natives and culture among others. The country is the source to the longest river in the world known as river Nile and Lake Victoria which is the largest lake in Africa and the second fresh water body in the world.

The capital city of Uganda is Kampala lying on the shores of Lake Victoria the largest lake in Africa and the second largest fresh water lake in the world. Uganda has different sceneries such as tropical forests, semi-arid deserts areas, the lush, rolling savannah, tea plantations among others.

Uganda is controlled by effects of inter tropical convergence zones. It experiences wet and dry seasons, the precipitation pattern known as bimodal.

Weather can change from hour to hour or from day to day but climate is the long term pattern of weather in a particular area. Uganda’s weather and climate pattern is dominated by two rainy seasons that is during the months of March to May and September to December.

Dry seasons range from the months of June to August and December to February. During the dry seasons in Uganda, little rainfall is always registered and during the rainy seasons, heavy rainfall is usually experienced in the night hours as the days are always bright.

In the north east, dry spells are usually experienced with one wet season while in the southern part, heavy rainfall is registered due to the presence of Lake Victoria basin.

During the rainy seasons, heavy rainfall with thunder storms are registered but not for the whole day. It can rain and shine shortly after. April is considered to be the peak rainy season of the country and heavy rainfall is registered during this month. Day time temperatures registered are around 28 degrees Celsius and morning temperatures of about 16 degrees Celsius. During this time, the gorilla parks in higher altitudes are usually colder than the ones at lower altitude.

In the months of September and November. Heavy rains are registered during the night hours and early mornings.

How the wet season affects people visiting Uganda?

The wet season affects Uganda negatively in a such a way that tourists are always few. The fact that during the rainy seasons, trails in national parks are muddy and slippery, people find it hard walking through the wild as well as roads and paths that become dirty. Regardless, there is always so much to enjoy during this time, like bird watching, chimpanzee and gorilla trekking.

Dry seasons of Uganda

Dry seasons are usually experienced during the months of July and August. Temperatures registered during this season is about 27 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius during morning hours. During the months of December, January and February, little rainfall is received but not as much as that of during rainy seasons.

The dry season is considered to be the best time to visit Uganda. During this time, trails in national parks are always dry and less slippery making it easy to walk through the wild. One of the activities to enjoy during this time is gorilla trekking, game drives among others.
